Enfield Connecticut

Via Springfield, MA

On Wednesday morning we awoke to get ready for the day’s adventures. Jim arranged for our shuttle to the airport so we could catch our train. Our shuttle driver was very friendly and accommodating. She stopped at a hotel to get some snack cakes. She shared them with us. Granny has low blood sugar early in the morning and needed something to keep her from being grumpy. It was much appreciated.

We arrived at BWI and headed to the train station. We boarded the Vermonter a single level train that goes up from Washington DC all the way to Vermont. We were taking it as far as Springfield, CT. The train was very comfy. I fell asleep quickly and slept through New York City awaking early afternoon arriving around 1pm. At some point during the trip, I had a snack, I just don’t remember when. I watched the sights outside the window. The landscape was beautiful. I was excited for what lies ahead.

Jim and I made to Springfield a little after 3pm. The weather was quite warm as we searched for a cab to take us to Enfield, CT. Granny was looking a little peaked, as a gentleman came upon me, asking what I was doing. I explained I’m trying to find a cab. He offered me a water and gave a number for the taxi. Within 20 minutes we were on our way to hotel and settled in.

Since we had many problems with taxicabs, I decided there needed to be an alternative to cabs. First, Jim looked at dial-a rides. But since we couldn’t coordinate the places, we wanted to go, we would try something else. I checked out Uber. Since I had an account but didn’t remember the password that wasn’t an option. I looked at Lyft. It seemed easy. I signed up from my phone and used our joint credit cards. I sent a request and by 4:15pm we were on our way.

Our first stop was Powder Hollow Brewery. It was a unique place with interesting beers. I had a pale ale flavored with Strawberries and Jim had a Cider. I could have stayed there all night, but the brewery served no food. After finishing Jim’s Cider, I texted Lyft and headed to our next destination Buonavita, a lovely Italian restaurant. Each of us enjoyed a lovely pasta dinner. Jim and Granny took Lyft back to our hotel and enjoyed watching the Boston Red Sox on NESN. It was fun to watch Boston. We fell asleep around 11:00.

I will continue the story of our vacation next time, as I tell the tale of our adventures in Hartford, CT. They include Jim’s encounter with a bride -to-be.
